Frequently Asked Questions

+ Can One Potato accommodate Gluten-Free families?

One Potato offers Gluten Free versions of all of our recipes, where we send gluten-free alternatives to foods containing gluten. Simply select Gluten-Free in your dietary preferences. Please be aware that One Potato is not a gluten free facility. We do have products that contain gluten in our kitchen and while we take the greatest care in preparing our meals, we cannot guarantee that there is no cross contamination.

+How does One Potato work?

Just follow these 3 easy steps and you’ll be cooking healthy, fresh meals for your family in no time:

Sign Up: tell us the size of your family (# of adults and # of children), how often you'd like to cook (2-3 nights per week), and any dietary restrictions you may have (i.e. poultry, red meat, pork, fish, shellfish).  We offer vegetarian, nut-free and gluten free meals as well.  You’ll receive an email with pictures and recipes of the delicious dinners you’ll be cooking the following week!

Receive Your Box: this is the fun part! Each Tuesday or Wednesday, a box of incredibly fresh, organic food arrives at your home, packed in a cooled, insulated box. What’s more, it’s measured and semi-chopped, ready to prepare. The box includes delicious meals and simple instructions, customized to your family.

Going out of town? Just click on our Delivery Schedule and tell us you don’t need the help that week. We have no membership fee, and no minimum commitment. You can skip any week’s delivery up to 6 weeks in advance or cancel at any time.

Start Cooking & Enjoy: you decide which of the meals you’ll be cooking that night.  Refrigerate the rest (or freeze the proteins if you won’t be eating them within 4-5 days).  Encourage your kids to help out, and within 30 minutes, your whole family will be eating a new, healthy and tasty dinner together.

+How is One Potato different from the existing meal kit delivery services?

Let’s face it.  There are tons of meal delivery services that can help in making mealtime easier.  So what makes One Potato so unique and special?

One Potato is the only meal kit focused on feeding the entire family:

  • Kid-size portions: Specify the size of your family and you will receive both adult and child-size portions for each meal. We make it cheaper to cook with One Potato!
  • Kid-friendly recipes: You will receive tried and true recipes from Weelicious and a James Beard award-winning chef that both parents and kids crave. We all know how challenging it can be introducing new flavors to your children, and we’re here to help.
  • Kids included: We encourage children to help in the kitchen, and we provide tips & recommendations on how to safely include them!

Organic & Local

As a parent, we know how important it is to you that your kids are eating healthy.  That’s why all of the protein and produce that we deliver to your home is certified organic.  We receive our ingredients from local farms and vendors to make sure that your ingredients are as fresh and healthy as possible.

Pre-chopped Ingredients

Time is of the essence when you have a hungry family waiting.  With semi-chopped and prepared ingredients, along with explicit instructions, you’ll be able to whip up a delicious and healthy meal in 30 minutes or less.  And you’ll have handy helpers who will gladly assist you in the kitchen!

Weekly Surprises

Who doesn’t love a good surprise?  We know your kids do.  Each week you’ll receive your own organic slice-and-bake cookie dough to end your meal with that perfect bite of dessert.

All in all, One Potato will simplify your life without breaking your bank, and will keep your family on the road to healthy living.

+How long does it take to prepare a One Potato meal?

It only takes about 30 minutes or less to prepare a One Potato meal. Our ingredients arrive semi-prepared. For example, most of our protein and vegetables arrive pre-cut and sauces and marinades are ready to cook. Our goal is to make cooking as easy and enjoyable as possible, and to allow you that extra time to spend with your family.

+What is Weelicious and what is its relationship with One Potato?

Weelicious is One Potato co-founder Catherine McCord’s family food brand which includes a website, cookbooks and menu planning service. For over eight years, Catherine has been providing families in need with fast, easy and fresh recipes for the entire family – no matter their age. The Weelicious audience has been clamoring for the opportunity to have the ingredients and recipes delivered straight to their door, and now One Potato is the answer.

+Why is the family meal important?

Studies have shown that eating dinner together as a family has a positive impact on children’s behavior and eating habits.  Results have shown academic benefits such as an increased vocabulary, earlier reading, and better test scores.  There’s also nutritional benefits as well.  Children are more likely to eat more fruits, vegetables and vitamins, and are more open to trying new foods, when eating together as a family.

But, preparing a meal that every member of the family will enjoy is often difficult. One Potato believes that it’s possible to prepare one meal to satisfy everyone at the dinner table. By offering recipes that appeal to both kids and adults alike, One Potato saves the family chef from feeling like an unappreciated short order cook. Reap the rewards of easy, tasty recipes, prepared in 30 minutes or less, and begin to enjoy dinner time again.

+How do I recycle my One Potato box?

We’ve worked closely with our suppliers to create packaging that is all recyclable or made of biodegradable materials.  Here’s how to dispose of your One Potato packaging in the most environmentally friendly way:

The box:

Your box should be flattened, then recycled with standard cardboard/paper recycling. The cardboard inserts and paper liners can be recycled with the box as well.

Bags and bottles:

All small plastic bags and bottles can be recycled with plastic recyclables.  These are #4 and #2 recyclables respectively.

The outside is recyclable with your plastics, and the inside is made of biodegradable materials. Please remove the outside layer and recycle, and dispose of the inside in your regular garbage.

Ice packs:

Our ice packs are filled with a non-toxic gel. To recycle them completely, cut them open and dispose of the gel, then recycle the exterior packaging with your plastics.

Note: Please always check with your local municipality as recycling capabilities can vary.
